Japanese Teahouse Studio

We revamped this granny flat into a tranquil Japanese-inspired haven that harmoniously blends traditional design elements with modern practicality. This adaptable studio space, nestled among the trees at the foot of the Illawarra Escarpment, offers a serene getaway from the daily hustle. The clients wanted to bring in elements of Japanese Design having lived in Japan, to create a revitalised space that offered flexibility in use for their children, grandparents visiting, or even a staycation for themselves. We used a mix of international and local materials, including traditional tatami floors from Taiwan, and Australian hardwood timber flooring.
